Upon arrival to BodyKNEADS Health Centre, the therapist will introduce themselves and have you complete a health history form. The therapist may ask for more information about certain details of this form, in order to have a complete picture of your overall health and past or present injuries.
Once we learn your goals for the session we may ask further questions and provide an assessment. The assessment helps the therapist to identify the source of your pain/discomfort, by identifying which muscles, nerves and/or joints are involved. Loose fitting clothing is recommended to allow the therapist to move you through your full range of motion.
Then the therapist formulates a plan for the hands-on portion of the session. If you approve of the proposed treatment plan we begin to prepare for the massage. You will have plenty of opportunity to ask question before the treatment begins. The therapist will explain positioning on the table as well as possible side-effects and benefits of receiving the treatment.
The therapist will make recommendations for what clothing to remove if you wish to receive skin-to-skin contact (therapist hands-to-affected areas of your body). However, you may remove as much or as little clothing as you wish. Some people chose to remain fully clothed during a treatment, and we can still achieve therapeutic benefits with treatment done through the clothing. The therapist will always leave the treatment room while you change and get on the massage table. During the massage you will be discreetly covered, as we only undrape one area at a time (as discussed with you while establishing the treatment plan).
The therapist will rely on your feedback during the massage to ensure your comfort level. If you find the pressure or certain techniques disagreeable, we will adjust to better suit your needs. If during the session, you decide that you wish to end the treatment, or make a change to the treatment plan (for example you no longer wish to have your legs massaged), you may do so at any time. We will never pressure you for a reason why you terminated or altered the treatment plan.
After the massage we ask that you take your time getting up and dressed. Both to ensure you don’t feel dizzy (due to low blood pressure after laying down), and to allow your muscles to readjust (and why rush after a massage? Enjoy that relaxed feeling).
Following the treatment the therapist will provide self care recommendations, such as stretching, hydrotherapy, and resistance exercises. We will often have you demonstrate the exercises to ensure you have the right form.
In most cases, full payment is due upon completion of the treatment. Please be prepared to pay, even if direct billing is intended. Payment may be required when submitting your claim online if your insurance company will only pay the insured member (you, the client). Cash, cheque and e-transfers (electronic money transfers) are the only accepted method of payment. As regulated health professionals tips (gratuities) are not expected.
